The Senate rejected an amendment to keep the federal recriminalization of hemp THC products on track for November—instead passing a White House-supported provision to delay the ban to give lawmakers more time to craft a regulatory structure as an alternative to prohibition.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Director Mehmet Oz sent a letter asking senators not to pass the amendment to keep the hemp product ban on track for November—saying he has “grave concerns” it would undermine a Trump administration initiative to cover CBD products through Medicare.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is launching a new clinical trial on whether psilocybin can help military veterans who are struggling with treatment-resistant depression, including those who have concurrent PTSD.
Texas Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico said the state keeping marijuana illegal while also banning hemp THC products is an “insane” form of “corruption” that benefits alcohol and tobacco companies and drug cartels.

The point-of-sale and payments service Square said it will no longer allow CBD and hemp to be sold on its platform, citing the forthcoming federal recriminalization of many hemp products.
The Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission launched a new recreational marijuana business licensing process that sets aside slots for social equity applicants and worker-owned cooperatives following the conclusion of litigation that blocked a prior effort.
The Georgia Department of Public Health acknowledged delays in processing medical cannabis patient registrations amid a huge influx of applications under the state’s newly expanded law that adds new qualifying conditions, allows vaping of flower and changesTHC potency limits.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) launched an investigation into what his office called “the Trump administration’s corrupt ties to Big Tobacco and the kratom industry.”
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted, “I support the current hemp language in the funding bill. It bans synthetic intoxicants while giving naturally derived products a short extension. That’s common sense, and it gives Congress and the Administration time to negotiate a more substantial bill.”
Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) criticized the White House’s push to delay the scheduled hemp THC product ban.
The House bill to respect state marijuana laws got one new cosponsor for a total of eight.

A new Colorado law on medical cannabis use by terminally ill patients at hospitals takes effect on Wednesday.
A California judge ruled that regulators failed to implement a compliant marijuana track and trace system. Separately, regulators announced a recall of marijuana products due to packaging and labeling that is attractive to children.
Montana regulators filed proposed changes to rules on operational control of marijuana businesses and disclosure of third-party contractual relationships.
New York regulators approved additional marijuana business licenses and discussed recommendations to strengthen community impact plans. They also reaffirmed that equity license holders must maintain sole control over their cannabis businesses.
New Jersey regulators took disciplinary action against marijuana businesses over alleged violations.
Tennessee regulators posted a list of licensed hemp retailer businesses.
Minnesota regulators posted a list of tax-delinquent cannabis businesses.
The Massachusetts Cannabis Social Equity Advisory Board will meet on Monday.
