Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) issued a press release saying he personally called the leadership of Canopy Growth Corp. to ensure it would move forward with plans to open a large hemp facility in New York following the news that the company ousted its co-CEO.

The Berkshire, Massachusetts district attorney endorsed a pending congressional marijuana reform bill after returning from a trip to study Portugal’s drug decriminalization policy.

Professional golfer Robert Garrigus says he was suspended for using medical cannabis to treat back and knee pain, and he’s now calling on the PGA to reconsider its broad ban on marijuana use by players.

/ FEDERAL

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) met with Oregon hemp farmers, tweeting, “Proud to have planted the seeds for this growth with my hemp legalization bill & am committed to continuing the work needed to take hemp to even greater heights.”

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) tweeted, “Communities of color and women have been left out of conversations about cannabis. I am committed to ensuring that marijuana reform goes hand-in-hand with criminal justice reform so we can repair some of the harm inflicted by the failed War on Drugs.”

Hawaii lawmakers are preparing to try to override potential vetoes from Gov. David Ige (D) of legislation on hemp and allowing inter-island transport of medical cannabis.

A New Jersey senator who opposes marijuana legalization published an op-ed on the need to decriminalize possession.

California regulators sent an update about changes to the process for obtaining provisional marijuana business licenses.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is speaking out against marijuana legalization.

Oregon regulators moved to make technical changes to marijuana rules. They also approved settlement agreements for violations by cannabis businesses.

Maryland regulators approved five new medical cannabis dispensaries.

Nebraska regulators announced they received 176 applications for hemp licenses.

Denver, Colorado regulators announced that Universal Herbs LLC voluntarily recalled marijuana products due to the presence of elevated yeast or mold levels.

The New York Civil Liberties Union apologized for a report error that dramatically overstated racial disparities in marijuana arrests in Schenectady.

/ SCIENCE & HEALTH

A study demonstrated that “nutritional supplements influence cannabinoid content in cannabis in an organ- and spatial-dependent manner” and confirmed “the potential of environmental factors to regulate concentrations of individual cannabinoids in medical cannabis.”

A survey of neurologists found that “acceptance was more often displayed by respondents who had adequate knowledge of the medical use of cannabis,” suggesting that “one’s receptivity toward cannabis can be improved if adequate information is provided about cannabis.”
