The U.S. House Rules Committee blocked another marijuana measure from advancing, this time an amendment to remove the 280E tax penalty on cannabis businesses.

Here’s a look at where Maine’s U.S. Senate candidates stand on marijuana. Republican contender Eric Brakey backs cannabis reform more strongly than does Democratic-caucusing incumbent Sen. Angus King.

The CEO of Molson Coors says the company wants to make marijuana-infused teas, seltzers and beer.

Canopy Growth’s subsidiary Tweed filed a trademark for a marijuana brand called “Chronic By Dre.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed to Marijuana Moment that a webform on its site was hacked, resulting in the posting of several marijuana-related and other spam articles.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is scheduled to participate next month in a forum titled, “Recreational Marijuana: The Impact on Michigan.”

The final version of a congressional opioids bill does not contain a provision that would have expanded penalties on synthetic drugs.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) said in a column that he supports including hemp legalization in the final Farm Bill.

Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), a U.S. Senate candidate, is “open” to legalizing medical cannabis. Her opponent, former Gov. Phil Bredesen (D), said more research is needed but that marijuana should be rescheduled and is “fundamentally a state issue.”

U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Republican challenger Mike Braun spoke about marijuana policy.

The U.S. House bill to protect federal workers from being fired for state-legal marijuana use got two new cosponsors, for a total of five.

Utah Democratic congressional candidate Lee Castillo said he will vote for the state’s medical cannabis ballot measure and supports rescheduling marijuana.

/ STATES

California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed bills allowing local governments to approve temporary marijuana events at any location they choose and creating a grant program to assist with the implementation of local measures to ensure equity in the cannabis industry.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) tweeted about the certification of medical cannabis research centers.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) relayed a joke about hemp and Cheech and Chong.

The Michigan House Committee on Agriculture held a hearing on hemp legislation, including a bill that would clarify hemp-derived CBD should not be treated as a controlled substance. Separately, the the former Senate majority leader is serving as a spokesman for the campaign seeking to defeat the state’s marijuana legalization ballot measure.

Washington State regulators projected that “the rapid growth in cannabis revenue in WA is likely over.”

The Oklahoma legislature’s medical marijuana working group held another meeting.

Hawaii’s commissioner of financial institutions sent a press release about the need for Congress to address marijuana businesses’ banking access issues.

/ LOCAL

The Kingsland, Georgia City Council approved an ordinance to eliminate jail time as a penalty for possession of one ounce or less of marijuana under the city code.

A Denver, Colorado task force is pushing for changes to the city’s marijuana social use program.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma City Council delayed a vote on a proposed moratorium on medical cannabis cultivation and processing businesses.

Boston, Massachusetts’s mayor criticized the mess that the Boston Freedom Rally marijuana festival left on the commons.

/ INTERNATIONAL

Ontario, Canada officials announced proposed marijuana rules that will let people to smoke cannabis anywhere tobacco smoking is allowed.

/ ADVOCACY

A working group convened by the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture is expected to formulate standards for hemp production.

Healthy and Productive Michigan announced that 200 organizations are opposing the state’s marijuana legalization ballot measure.

/ SCIENCE & HEALTH

A study found that “daily marijuana use is associated with higher odds of job loss.”

/ BUSINESS

Los Angeles International Airport, in a policy launched earlier this year that drew a lot of attention on the Internet this week, “will allow passengers to travel through LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana.”

A special permit for next month’s High Times Cannabis Cup in Sacramento is in jeopardy after a city council says the company didn’t deliver on promises made prior to its last event.
