Several bipartisan senators told Marijuana Moment that it will be difficult to find enough Republican votes to pass cannabis banking legislation even in light of former President Donald Trump’s endorsement.

  • “Donald Trump can say whatever he wants, but unless you bring us some Republican senators, we’re not going to get SAFE Banking,” Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) said.

Vice President Kamala Harris said she supports decriminalizing all drugs during her prior run for president in a little-notice 2019 questionnaire from the American Civil Liberties Union that has now been resurfaced amid her current campaign.

Florida Republican and Democratic senators made a joint appearance in a new ad supporting the marijuana legalization initiative on the November ballot—while Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is claiming the reform would benefit a “weed cartel.”

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’s marijuana dispensary, located within North Carolina, saw more than 4,000 customers in its opening weekend—with the principal chief calling it “a significant milestone for our tribe, marking a new chapter of opportunity and growth.”

California lawmakers and advocates are pushing Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to sign a pair of marijuana bills that would legalize cannabis cafes and let small growers sell their products directly to consumers at state-organized farmers markets.

A new study looks at the discovery of the alkaloid of cocaine in human remains dated to the 1600’s in Milan, Italy—”backdating our understanding of the presence” of the coca plant in Europe “by almost two centuries.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) noted former President Donald Trump’s “flip on marijuana policy.”

A Wisconsin senator blamed the state’s inability to legalize marijuana on its gerrymandered political districts.

A New York assemblymember toured marijuana dispensaries.

Maine regulators issued a recall of marijuana products that failed yeast and mold audit testing.

Illinois regulators adopted changes to the rules on the  recreational marijuana dispensary licensing process.

Kentucky’s top medical cannabis regulator discussed steps to launch the program.

The Florida Department of Transportation posted an ad urging people not to drive under the influence of marijuana.

Oklahoma regulators posted a list of doctors who voluntarily registered to be listed as willing to issue medical cannabis recommendations.

Washington State regulators will host feedback sessions on rules concerning the presence of minors on non-retail cannabis premises on Monday and Thursday.

Colorado regulators will hold a hearing about proposed psychedelics rules on September 16.
