President Donald Trump signed a spending bill to end the government shutdown that contains provisions to recriminalize hemp THC products—with the ban set to take effect in one year—even though he previously signed legislation to legalize the products in 2018.
The House Rules Committee blocked an amendment from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) that would have saved hemp products from recriminalization, while Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said lawmakers should work on crafting “balanced, science-based regulation” in the year before the ban takes effect.
Vice President JD Vance, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other top Trump administration officials attended a “Make America Healthy Again” summit featuring a session on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics.
A new poll of Florida likely voters found that 89 percent believe “voters should have the right to vote on if Adult Personal Use of Marijuana should be allowed or not allowed in this state”—rather than leaving the issue to politicians to decide.
A new study found that “high-intensity cannabis use is linked to higher relationship satisfaction among women” but that “men reported the opposite.”

Amy Dawn Bourlon-Hilterbran of Moms Mobilized authored a new Marijuana Moment op-ed about how the federal recriminalization of hemp products like the ones that she says saved her son’s life will “put hundreds of thousands of patients, and the people that love them, in jeopardy.”
A spokesperson for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said federally recriminalizing hemp products will “hurt the state’s small businesses” and that she “believes efforts by Congress to regulate hemp products should account for states like Minnesota that already have strong regulations in place.”
New Jersey’s Senate president filed a bill to let medical marijuana dispensaries conduct recreational sales without local approval, loosen ethics requirements for the Cannabis Regulatory Commission and strip the governor of the power to name its chair.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) said hemp supporters are going to “keep at it until we get this fixed.”
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) tweeted that a police officer once told him, “nobody ever beat the shit out of their wife after smoking weed all day…”
Independent Nebraska U.S. Senate candidate Dan Osborn tweeted, “Hemp is a legal crop. Farmers grow it for rope, textiles, paper, building materials. Veterans and people with chronic pain use CBD products made from it. This last-minute ban would destroy a $28 billion industry, wipe out 95% of hemp businesses, and eliminate 300,000 American jobs. It would devastate rural farming communities across the country.”

Maine Republican gubernatorial candidate David Jones will host an event with medical cannabis caregivers on Thursday.
Nebraska Republican former and potentially future gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster said Gov. Jim Pillen (R) “has done everything he can to delay and dismantle the voter-enacted medical cannabis statutes.”
A South Carolina Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources subcommittee plans to hold a hearing on a hemp regulation bill over the next month.
A Wisconsin representative said a case involving a woman who shot her friend after smoking marijuana bolsters his push to ban intoxicating hemp products.
