Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D) signed an executive order to protect medical cannabis caregivers who provide medicine for patients from “undue enforcement” after lawmakers inadvertently allowed a policy clarifying their legal status to expire.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture posted a new video about its scientists’ work on hemp, touting their efforts to “unlock this plant’s amazing nutritional benefits for consumers and new economic benefits for the farmer.”
Major sports associations like the NFL and NCAA updated their marijuana policies as the legalization movement grew in 2024, and NBA and WNBA teams launched partnerships with CBD companies.
A new federally funded study shows that daily or near-daily marijuana consumption by young adults aged 19 to 30 is “nearly three times as prevalent” as daily or near-daily alcohol use.

An Arkansas judge ruled that regulators improperly awarded a medical cannabis cultivation license.
Colorado regulators are now accepting applications for psychedelics business licenses.
Oregon regulators published a bulletin on recent marijuana and hemp rules changes.
Michigan regulators published a bulletin about annual financial statement requirements for marijuana businesses.
Washington State marijuana dispensaries are now required to post signs about health effects of high-THC cannabis.
California regulators sent a reminder that they will no longer renew marijuana business provisional licenses as of Wednesday.
The Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission will meet on Thursday and on January 8.

Canadian regulators plan to publish the results of a program that sampled and tested legal and illegal cannabis products in the coming months.

A study found that “CBG and CBN exhibited suppressive, cell death-inducing effects on leukemia cells.”
A review concluded that “there have been encouraging data supporting the use of psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for depression, including previously treatment-resistant symptoms” and that “MDMA-assisted psychotherapy is showing similar promise in treating PTSD, with excellent response and remission rates that appear durable.”
