Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) signed a bill allowing marijuana businesses to take state tax deductions as a partial workaround to the Internal Revenue Service code known as 280E that prohibits such deductions at the federal level.

The New Jersey Civil Service Commission ordered the Jersey City Police Department to reinstate an officer who was improperly fired over marijuana, with backpay.

Bill Gates told Seth Rogen that he smoked marijuana in high school in an attempt to “to be cool.” They, along with Rogen’s wife Lauren Miller, also discussed how federal law impedes cannabis research.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture shared the success story of an Indiana-based hemp farm, touting how federal financial and technical assistance helped the business to maximize its output of high-quality CBD oil.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation reported that retailers sold more than $140 million worth of recreational marijuana products in July—the highest monthly haul so far this year and the state’s second-biggest month of adult-use cannabis purchases on record since sales launched in 2020.

A new study found that workers who use marijuana off the job are no more likely to experience workplace injuries than those who don’t use cannabis at all.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) tweeted about a resolution he is cosponsoring “calling for the immediate release of Marc Fogel, a U.S. citizen imprisoned in Russia since August 2021 for carrying about half an ounce of medical marijuana.”

Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) tweeted, “Veterans should be able to use medical cannabis in states where legal programs exist. That’s why the House overwhelmingly approved our amendment to update this rule.”

The House marijuana banking bill got one new cosponsor for a total of 67.

The House resolution on reparations that notes that ​​Black people are systematically targeted and criminalized by the war on drugs got one new cosponsor for a total of 12.
