Maryland voters approved a referendum to legalize marijuana.
Missouri voters passed a cannabis legalization ballot initiative.
Arkansas voters rejected a ballot measure to legalize marijuana.
North Dakota voters defeated a marijuana legalization ballot initiative.
South Dakota voters rejected a ballot measure to legalize cannabis.
A Colorado ballot initiative to legalize psychedelics was narrowly leading but too close to call as of early Wednesday morning.
Voters in five Texas cities approved local marijuana decriminalization ballot measures.
At a rally on the eve of Election Day, President Joe Biden told college students that marijuana reform depends on their votes. The White House separately included the president’s cannabis pardons in an overview of efforts to promote “equity and fairness in the justice system” to support the Black community.

Former President Donald Trump reiterated his support for using the death penalty against people who sell drugs.
Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) tweeted, “Over the last 10 years, Colorado has set the bar for regulating marijuana.”

Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R) appointed members to the Marijuana Task Force he created.
An Indiana senator tweeted, “Substance abuse, especially opioids, continues to be a challenge across Indiana. As experts…have told us, medical cannabis can help reduce opioid use and overdoses.”
Washington, D.C. officials extended free medical cannabis patient and caregiver registrations through January 3.
The Nevada Cannabis Advisory Commission’s Subcommittee on Market Stability met.
Oklahoma regulators will begin accepting public comments on proposed medical cannabis rules on Tuesday.
The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission will meet on Thursday.

A study found that recreational marijuana legalization “leads to a decrease in the frequency of prescription opioid abuse” but that “this effect appears to dissipate after only 2 or 3 years.”
