New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said the time is “ripe” to legalize marijuana and that the “pressure will be on because we need the money so badly.”

A Montana lawmaker is dropping a plan he had before the election to try to overturn the state’s marijuana legalization ballot measure now that voters have approved the cannabis reform by such a strong margin.
- “Say 51 percent, then that bill would’ve been a good idea, because then it would’ve allowed us to say, ‘Well, listen, Montanans are a little confused on this. Not everybody was really for it.’”
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) said she thinks voters made the “wrong choice” in approving marijuana legalization and medical cannabis ballot measures this week. Meanwhile, the House speaker said it is going to be a “challenge” to implement the reform following voters’ approval at the ballot box this week.
- “You really need to figure out if a constitutional amendment is sufficient in itself to clarify some of those issues. I suspect we are going to have some challenges to that because it is so long.”
Final results on New Zealand’s marijuana referendum show that late-counted “special votes” tilted significantly in favor of legalization, but not enough to reverse last month’s preliminary numbers showing that the measure lost.

Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) said she is concerned about some aspect of the state’s voter-approved medical cannabis initiative.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) said he doesn’t know if his girlfriend, the actress Rosario Dawson, was more excited to vote for his reelection or for New Jersey’s marijuana legalization referendum.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) took the opportunity to tout marijuana’s success at the ballot box during a contentious House Democratic caucus call.
Former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said, “When cannabis is on the ballot, it wins. Even with hyper-partisanship everywhere else, people of all stripes agree about cannabis reform.”

Oregon regulators proposed rules on marijuana additives.
Colorado regulators sent a health and safety advisory about potentially unsafe levels of Total yeast and mold contamination on medical cannabis flower from Preferred Products LLC.
Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday.
